The Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) Educational Leadership exam is designed to assess the knowledge and skills of individuals seeking admission to an educator preparation program, certification in Georgia, or wanting to become a qualified school leader in Georgia secondary schools.

GACE Educational Leadership Exam Outline

The GACE Educational Leadership exam contains 100 selected-response questions and four constructed-response questions, and you will be given a time limit of 3.5 hours.

The exam is split into seven subareas.

I. Educational Vision (13%)

The questions in this subarea are designed to assess your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Collaborating with stakeholders to develop and promote the shared mission and values that support academic success and well-being
  • Using multiple data sources to monitor and evaluate progress toward the educational mission and values
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement that aligns with the shared mission and values

II. School Culture, Equity, Cultural Responsiveness (13%)

The questions in this subarea are designed to assess your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Developing a school environment that promotes equity and culturally responsive practices
  • Developing and promoting an inclusive and supportive school community that promotes the academic success and well-being of each student
  • Building and supporting a professional community of staff

III. Curriculum and Instruction (14%)

The questions in this subarea are designed to assess your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Developing and implementing an equitable and rigorous instructional program that supports each student’s growth and learning
  • Implementing an effective system of assessment and evaluation aligned with curriculum and instruction

IV. Managing the Organization, Operations, and Resources (13%)

The questions in this subarea are designed to assess your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Managing operations, services, and programs to ensure a safe, ethical, efficient, and equitable environment
  • The fundamental processes and elements of managing the monetary and physical resources to ensure the continued viability of the organization
  • Building an effective staff
  • Establishing an effectives administrative system that promotes the mission and values of the school/district

V. Collaborating and Communicating with Stakeholders (11%)

The questions in this subarea are designed to assess your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Promoting, developing, and supporting collaborative and productive relationships with families and the community
  • Communicating effectively when working with stakeholders and families
  • Engaging the support of stakeholders and families for continuous improvement efforts

VI. Professionalism and Ethics (11%)

The questions in this subarea are designed to assess your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Maintaining a fair and ethical learning environment that supports the shared mission and values of the organization
  • Creating and implementing procedures and policies that support the shared mission and values of the organization

VII. Analysis (25%)

This subarea contains the four constructed-response questions. For each question, you will be given a classroom scenario and related information, such as as schedules, teacher notes, and collected data. You will be asked to write a short response to each scenario, generally identifying some actions that the school leader should take and why.

GACE Educational Leadership Exam Registration

To register for the GACE Educational Leadership exam, you need to use your MyPSC account. If you do not have an account, create your account to receive your Georgia certification number. After you register for the Educational Leadership exam on MyPSC, create an ETS GACE testing account. Your ETS account lists the test(s) you are approved to take. You will register for the exam through your ETS GACE testing account.

Fees

The testing fee is $193, which includes a $25 registration fee and a $28 test center fee. Individuals taking the GACE exam at an international testing site are subject to an additional $50 test site fee.

Test Day

You should arrive at the testing center about 30 minutes before your scheduled exam to allow extra time for the check-in process. If you arrive later than the listed reporting time on your admission ticket, you will not be able to take the exam and your testing fees will be forfeited.

During the check-in process, you will be asked to provide at least one form of valid identification, which must contain your photo and signature. Once the check-in process is complete, you will be asked to place all personal items (cell phone, keys, wallet, etc.) in a locker outside the testing room.

Once you are ready, the proctor will lead you to the testing area and provide some short instructions before starting the exam.

How the GACE Educational Leadership Exam is Scored

When you have completed your exam, you are given the option to report or cancel your scores. They cannot be reinstated if you choose to cancel your scores.

You should also receive an unofficial score report right after the exam. Your official report will be made available about three weeks after the testing window closes.

Passing Score

The Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC), along with local education committees, established the minimum passing scores for the GACE content assessments:

  • 220-249: Induction level
  • 250: Professional level

If you take the combined test and one of your scores is at the induction level and the other is at the professional level, you will be considered as having only passed at the induction level.
